Wednesday 27th December – Windsurf **** River Orwell at Levington Marina – cloudy and breezy.

Foil – 20.96 knot max, 19.75 knot ave, 1.67 knot hour, 16.03 knot mile, 20.39 km., 12.50 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Naish Nalu 4.7.

With Storm Gerrit coming with 40 plus mph winds I did not think I would be going windsurfing today especially as it was raining first thing! The the rain stopped and I checked the forecast and the strong winds were coming in the afternoon, so with 20 knots of wind from the SW to decided to have a quick breakfast and despite the gloom I headed over to Levington Marin to check things out and was glad I did and after a slow start it turned into a top session, that makes a change these days! The tide was high and the foil board set up, next thing was sail choice, I nearly rigged 5.2 but changed my mind and went for the 4.75. I thought I had made a misake when I headed out and was wishing I had rigged 5.5, after a few runs only planing in patches the wind filled in and I had some cracking mile and a half runs from the corner down towards Pin Mill:) Some good speeds, SW is a top direction here and was pleased with todays speeds, nearly made 21 knot max, my second best average for Levington with some good miles and alphas, it is so much fun turning at speed with a small sail! I was hoping for a good hour but the slow start put paid to that but never mind, after a couple of hours I was knackered and the wind was now approaching 30 knots so it was time to call it a day! Pack up, shower and home to the surprise of another visit from the Granddaughter the very lovely Maeva:) While her mum relaxed watching a film at our house we took Maeva around to our old friend Mary, Gemma her daughter was there to and we had a nice chat before heading for home in light rain. There are several windy days coming now but I will have a day off tomorrow especially as my wetsuit is now soaked due to the rain!
